Nelly Furtado Donates $1M Paid By Quddafi

The singer Nelly Furtado donated 1 million dollars to Free The Children. This money will help fund two new Free The Children programs supporting girls in Kenya and in the Middle East and North Africa region, the money was given to her by Quddafi in Italy 2007 where she preformed a private concert for him and his family. The money which was from the people of Libya. Now at the time Quddafi was the leader of Libya, though not a great one he was not considered a threat to other countries, so was accepting money from him wrong.

Nelly Furtado is just one of the many people who were paid a great amount of money to perform for him.  Though she did not give the money directly to Libya, because it may be difficult to donate money to a charity that can give the money to Libya. Libya is in a state of change for better or for worse. So instead she is donating to an organization to children in Africa who are in most need of help. And this helps more childern, not to mention Libya is part of North Africa. So did she really do such a bad thing if it involves the children of Libya?

  1. Alethea, I agree with you last point, "And this helps more childern, not to mention Libya is part of North Africa." Libya is part of North America, but Nelly chose not to give the money back to them, instead she gave it to an organization which Nelly has made a connection with.(Over the summer, Nelly Furtado traveled to Kenya to visit the girls and see what it was like. I watched this, and you can see a clear connection she had with the students. But she was heartbroken when she found out only a certain amount of girls out of thousands we accepted in the high-school-There you could see she has made a connection with those who haven't been accepted) But, I had trouble reading your choice, it wasn't clear as to which 'place' you've picked; Me 2 We (Free The Children) or back to the Libyans.

But all in all, good job Alethea!
